BISHKEK, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu was re-elected as speaker of the parliament of Kyrgyzstan, the parliament's press service reported on Wednesday.
Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh, Kyrgyzstan's unicameral parliament, voted on the speaker at their first session after taking the oath of office.
The newly formed parliamentary groups Ata-Zhurt, Ala-Too, Eldik, Mekenchil and Adilet Kyrgyzstan jointly nominated Turgunbek uulu for the post. He was later elected by secret ballot, receiving the support of 84 deputies.
Turgunbek uulu previously served as speaker of the parliament, having been elected to the post on Oct. 5, 2022.
The parliament voted to dissolve itself on Sept. 25 this year, citing concerns over the close timing of the presidential and parliamentary elections. Early parliamentary elections were held on Nov. 30.
According to a resolution published by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on Dec. 10, the CEC approved the results of the early elections, with 87 candidates elected. The commission validated the results in 30 multi-member constituencies, while declaring the outcome in the 13th constituency invalid due to violations of electoral law. ■
