BUDAPEST, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- World Aquatics and the Budapest 2027 organizing committee confirmed Tuesday that the MVM Dome and Duna Arena will serve as the main venues for the World Aquatics Championships scheduled for June 26 to July 18, 2027.

The event will be Budapest's third Worlds in nine years, following the 2017 and 2022 editions. The city also staged the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) in 2024.

The MVM Dome, the region's largest multifunctional arena, will host swimming and water polo, with a competition pool installed inside and a training pool nearby. The Duna Arena will stage diving and artistic swimming. Venues for open water swimming and high diving will be announced later.

World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam said the facilities would help deliver memorable experiences for fans and athletes.

"At World Aquatics, we believe that water is for everyone, and through it, we want to bring unforgettable experiences to everyone, whether you are a fan cheering from the stands or an athlete competing at the highest level," he said.

Executive Director Brent Nowicki praised Budapest's track record as a host city and its growing role as a global training hub.

"We are thrilled with the progress towards the World Aquatics Championships and are looking forward to seeing the world's best athletes compete in such a great setting," he said.

Government commissioner and organizing committee co-chair Adam Schmidt said the championships will also serve as a key qualification event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. He added that the MVM Dome will accommodate around 10,000 spectators.
