RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian Football Confederation is in talks to extend Carlo Ancelotti's contract as head coach of the men's national team, its president Samir Xaud said on Tuesday.
Ancelotti, 66, took charge of Brazil in May on a contract running until next year's FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
"The dialogue has already begun," Xaud said. "We will wait ... to sit down to finalize the details. The intention is to be able to carry out medium to long-term work. Work of excellence for Brazilian football."
Ancelotti has overseen four wins, two draws and two losses since his appointment.
Five-time World Cup champion Brazil secured its place in the next edition of football's biggest tournament with a 1-0 win over Paraguay in June, the Italian's second game in the job.
The South American team will begin its 2026 World Cup campaign against Morocco on June 13 before also facing Haiti and Scotland in the group stage. ■
