BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday reiterated resolute opposition to foreign interference in Taiwan question.

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the statement in response to Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te's planned purchase of weaponry from the United States.

"We have the strong will, confidence, resolve and capability to crush any secessionist attempt seeking 'Taiwan independence'," she said, adding that China's reunification is unstoppable.

In response to another question about the new U.S. national security strategy document, which states that the United States does not support any unilateral changes to the status quo in the Taiwan Strait, Zhu noted that the real status quo in the Taiwan Strait is that there is only one China in the world and both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to the one and the same China.

The spokesperson urged the U.S. side to handle Taiwan question with caution, warning against allowing a small number of "Taiwan independence" separatists to drag China and the United States into a dangerous situation of conflict and confrontation.

While commenting on Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent Taiwan-related remarks, Zhu asked the Japanese side to earnestly reflect on and correct its mistakes and retract erroneous remarks, warning the Japanese side not to underestimate China's strong will and capabilities to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
