ZHENGZHOU, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Liu Weidong, former deputy general manager of China South Industries Group Corporation, one of the country's leading military industry companies, was sentenced to 13 years in prison on Tuesday for accepting bribes.

The judgement was handed down by the Intermediate People's Court of Nanyang in central China's Henan Province.

Liu was also fined a sum of 4 million yuan (about 587,000 U.S. dollars), while his illegal gains will be confiscated and turned over to the state treasury, according to a verdict issued by the court.

From 1999 to 2025, Liu took advantage of his various posts to assist others in matters such as enterprise operation and personnel adjustment. In exchange, he accepted bribes worth a total of over 41.39 million yuan, the court said.

Liu stood trial on Jan. 16 and pleaded guilty and expressed remorse in his final statement.
