ISTANBUL, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye will raise transit fees for international vessels passing through the Turkish straits from July 1 to boost state revenue, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said on Friday.

The transit fee for vessels passing through the straits without calling at a Turkish port will increase from 5.83 U.S. dollars to 6.70 dollars per net ton.

Annual revenue from the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul and the Dardanelles Strait in the northwestern Canakkale province is projected to reach 254 million dollars for the July 2025-June 2026 period, according to the minister.

Uraloglu said revenue from the straits had increased significantly following a series of tariff revisions, rising from 38 million dollars in the July 2021-June 2022 period to 223 million dollars in July 2024-June 2025.

The transit fee had remained at 0.80 dollars per net ton from 1983 until its first revision in 2022, when the government introduced annual adjustments.

The Turkish straits constitute a vital corridor linking Black Sea producers to global markets and connecting international maritime trade routes.
