CARACAS, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela and Israel have agreed to establish a coordination mechanism to provide consular services to their respective citizens residing in the other country, Venezuela's foreign ministry said Tuesday.
In a statement, the ministry said both governments recognized the importance of the ties between Israel and the Jewish community in Venezuela, calling the community "an important historical bridge of friendship between the two countries."
The ministry also said the two governments agreed to allow the continuation of bilateral technical cooperation launched during the emergency caused by the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24.
Venezuela broke diplomatic relations with Israel in 2009 under the government of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. ■
