RIYADH, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Debris from an intercepted ballistic missile fell in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh on Thursday, causing material damage to a kindergarten and a medical complex, according to the Saudi Civil Defense.
The Civil Defense spokesperson said in a statement posted on the agency's official account on social media platform X that the missile, launched by Yemen's Houthis, was intercepted and destroyed.
The spokesperson added that standard procedures had been implemented in response to the incident.
On Thursday, the Houthis launched multiple airstrikes on Saudi Arabia, claiming three missile attacks on Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport and separate ballistic missile strikes on the country's southwestern Najran International Airport and King Khalid Air Base in the southwest.
Meanwhile, many flights to Riyadh were canceled at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, a western Saudi city, during the day, leaving passengers stranded.
As of 9 p.m. local time (1800 GMT), some flights on the Jeddah-Riyadh route resumed, and operations at Riyadh Airport returned to normal.
Also on Thursday, the Arab League condemned the continued attacks by the Houthis against Saudi territory, affirming that the kingdom's security is an integral part of Arab national security.
The remarks came during a phone call from Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy to Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, according to the Saudi Press Agency. ■
