BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Shen Yiqin urged Chinese athletes to build on their experiences from the 20th Asian Games and continue working hard in preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games.

Shen made the remarks on Friday in Beijing during a meeting with the Chinese delegation to the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, which concluded on Sunday.

China topped the medal table for the 12th consecutive edition, collecting 169 gold, 89 silver and 83 bronze medals to achieve its best medal haul at an overseas Asian Games.

Shen extended her congratulations to the delegation for its brilliant performances, saying the athletes had brought glory to the country and its people through their patriotism, determination, teamwork, confidence and sportsmanship.

With less than two years remaining before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, Shen urged athletes to address their shortcomings and weaknesses, maintain their preparations and further strengthen China's position as a leading Olympic sporting nation. ■
