MADRID, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Barcelona announced on Friday that young defender Xavi Espart has agreed to extend his contract with the club until the end of June 2030.
The 19-year-old youth team product was previously tied to the club until June 2028, but his impressive performances this season have prompted Barcelona to move quickly to secure his long-term future.
"Contract extension agreement reached between FC Barcelona and the player Xavi Espart, who is now set to stay with the club through to June 30, 2030. The club and player will formally sign the contract at the club offices in the presence of FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta in the coming days," Barcelona said on its official website.
Espart joined Barcelona in 2015 and made his first-team debut in March 2026 in a Champions League away match against Newcastle United. He went on to make five more La Liga appearances that season.
He was officially promoted to the first-team squad in the summer and has since made five appearances, scoring his first goal against Levante. He has also demonstrated his versatility by playing on either side of the defense and in a more advanced midfield role. ■
