TEHRAN, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Thursday night exchanged views on strengthening bilateral economic cooperation, the official news agency IRNA reported.
The two sides discussed the issue in a meeting after arriving in Turkmenistan for a summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States that starts Friday in the Caspian Sea resort of Avaza.
The two leaders called for stronger economic cooperation in energy, agriculture, transport and trade, IRNA reported.
They also stressed the need to accelerate joint projects and voiced determination to broaden comprehensive cooperation in ways that safeguard national interests and regional stability, it added.
Speaking ahead of his departure for Turkmenistan earlier in the day, Pezeshkian called the visit a "favorable" opportunity to strengthen relations with neighboring countries, according to a statement published on the website of his office. ■
