TRIPOLI, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Governor of the Central Bank of Libya Naji Issa submitted a formal request to the House of Representatives to resign, according to a letter published by local media on Monday.
Issa did not disclose specific reasons for his request in the letter, saying only that the reasons were related to "sensitive matters," according to various media reports.
The move came as the Libyan economy faces growing pressures, including fluctuations in the exchange rate of the Libyan dinar against foreign currencies, rising prices, and continued disputes over the unification of public spending and monetary policies.
Issa assumed the post in October 2024, succeeding Sadiq al-Kabir, as part of a political settlement between the House of Representatives and the High Council of State brokered by the UN. ■
