TRIPOLI, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- An explosion was reported Monday inside a fuel tank at the Zawiya oil refinery in western Libya, sending flames and thick plumes of smoke into the sky, local media reported.
Initial reports suggested that the tank was targeted by a suicide drone, local media said.
Libyan satellite news channel Al-Masar TV broadcast live footage from the scene, where warning sirens were reportedly heard following the explosion.
There were no immediate official reports on the cause of the explosion or any casualties resulting from it.
The refinery, operated by the state-owned Zawiya Oil Refining Company under the National Oil Corporation, is located in the city of Zawiya. It is one of Libya's major oil refining facilities. ■
