NAIROBI, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese telecom firm Huawei on Tuesday pledged to strengthen its partnership with the Kenyan government to accelerate the east African country's green energy transition through smart technologies.
Speaking at the Kenya Energy Transition Forum in Nairobi, co-hosted by Huawei and Kenya's Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, the telecom company introduced innovations in smart grids and energy storage to senior policymakers, utility managers, and industry leaders.
James Sun, deputy chief executive officer for public affairs at Huawei Kenya, said that deploying intelligent solutions is critical to boosting renewable energy adoption across households and industrial sectors in the country.
Sun reaffirmed Huawei's commitment as a long-standing partner to local energy providers, emphasizing that the company will continue offering smart power technologies to enhance connectivity and fuel industrial growth.
He noted that Huawei has already backed major infrastructure projects in the country, including a large-scale solar power plant in Garissa County and last-mile connectivity programs aimed at expanding access to clean, reliable energy.
Sun added that Kenya's power system is entering a new phase of growth, making it urgent to adopt smart solutions that strengthen grid stability and streamline transmission operations and maintenance.
Alex Wachira, principal secretary for the state department for energy, noted that Huawei's intelligent solutions will play a crucial role in improving grid flexibility, stability, and resilience to support the nation's green industrialization goals.
"Technologies such as smart grids, advanced grid management systems, digitization, power electronics and energy storage can help us strengthen grid stability, boost uptake of renewable energy, improve systems' resilience and reduce technical and commercial losses," he said. ■
